“Vasilisa the Beautiful” is an immersive storybook experience that reimagines Slavic folklore and imagery in a new, inventive way. Using HTML coding, I created an interactive story for readers to click through the pages as they experience them. This project’s visual language was inspired by the inventive storybook illustrations of Ivan Bilibin. My goal was to create beautiful illustrations along with an intriguing story in order to honor and reimagine the original myth. The Slavic harpies that serve as buttons are Sirin and Alkonost, characters native to Slavic folklore that often appear in the borders of Bilibin’s illustrations.
